OFFLINE UNLOCKING GUIDE

______________________________________________________________________________
A. INTRODUCTION
________________________________________________________________/.(intdc1).__

The first part of this guide will explain how to progress in the offline story
and how to unlock quests, items and whatnot along the way. Monster Hunter is
famously known for the lack of a story, and this game is no different.
Therefore the story will mainly consist of doing key quests (= "Red Bubble"
quests because of the red text balloons) for various NPC's in the village.
You'll have to either give them items you've amassed during your quests, or do
certain key quests in order to advance.

I would advise anyone who wants to play this game, to keep these websites in
their bookmarks at all time, since they will provide a ton of information:

https://maple(...)ure.com/
https://mmpot(...)dex.html

The first one is in English luckily. The second one isn't, and although you
can run Google translator on it, it will often result into half Japanese, half
Engrish gibberish, so it will probably not be as useful as the first site.

Also, use this guide in conjunction with part II of this guide, which has a
complete list of all the offline quests and their subquest objectives.

If you have any questions, mistakes to point out or if there are things you
would like me to add, contact me at my e-mail address at the end of the FAQ.

______________________________________________________________________________
B. STARTING OUT, YOUR FIRST QUEST!
________________________________________________________________/.(b.strt).__

Once you've created your character, you'll be introduced to Jumbo village via
a beautiful FMV. When it's done, talk to the Village Chief by pressing circle.
He will give you 1500z to get started. The first thing you should do, is buy
4 pickaxes and bugnets from the cat's shop on the bottom left, because you'll
have to do a lot of item gathering to advance with the story. Once that's
over with, proceed to the lady at the counter and talk to her twice. You'll be
given your first quest, which is:

Warm Explore the Jungle 0 (M)Deliver 5 Special Mushrooms 300
season Jungle! (S1)Deliver 2 Royal Beetles 450
(S2)Deliver 4 Raw Meat 100
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Gather 5 of these from the mushroom spots in areas 1,2,5,6,9 and 10 and
deliver in the red box in camp.
(S1) Catch them at bugspots (where green pireflies are flying around)
in areas 3 and 10.
(S2) Kill Aptonoth or Kelbi and carve them up for meat. Then deliver 4 in the
red box.

NOTE: You can finish either of the 3 quest objectives to finish the quest,
but only the main objective (M) will count towards a cleared quest.
To finish a quest when you've fulfilled one of the subquests, go to
the bed in camp and choose the second option.

Other useful things to do while on this quest:
- Make sure you gather at least 5 Blue Mushrooms, which you need later on.
- Kill Bullfango in area 9 and carve them up. You'll need 1 Bullfango Pelt.
- Gather Sunstone Ore from the mining spots (walls with cracks in it) in
areas 4 and 8 with your pickaxe. You'll need 3 of them later on.
- Mine for Iron Ore in areas 1,3 and 7. You need it to upgrade your weapon.

______________________________________________________________________________
C. GATHER ITEMS FOR THE VILLAGE CHIEF
________________________________________________________________/.(c.gath).__

After finishing the quest, you'll be back in the village. Go to your house to
put all your stuff (except pickaxes and bugnets) in the box. Re-buy broken
iron pickaxes and bugnets. If you have some Iron Ore, you can now upgrade your
weapon at the blacksmith (speak to the old lady at the furnace). If you talk
to the Village Chief, you'll see that he has a red bubble above his head.
After receiving a Mega Potion, this is what he'll want you to get him:

- 5x Blue Mushroom (should have gotten it in your first quest)
- 1x Bullfango Pelt (same as above)

Give him what he needs and you'll receive 120z in return. The fisher man will
now be near the river at the southside of Jumbo village, which will give you
3x Worm. Go to the river bank right next to him and you'll be able to do some
fishing. A rival hunter will appear and 6 basic training quests become
available at the Training Dojo. Also 2 new quests to play at the quest counter
(not the training quests). Pick the one with Velocidrome and try to do it when
it's night time:

Warm Hunt down the Jungle 100 (M)Hunt Velocidrome 600
season Velocidrome! (S1)Kill 8 Velociprey 300
(S2)Deliver 5 Special Mushrooms 300
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Velocidrome. He rotates between areas 6,7,3 and 8. The
first time he'll be in area 8.
(S1) Kill 8 minions of Velocidrome. They're blue coloured as well.
(S2) Gather these from the mushroom spots in areas 1,2,5,6,9 and 10.

- Make sure you gather at least 5 Night Herbs in area 2,4 and 6. If you
didn't get enough, you'll have to do another night-time quest (like I had
to).
- Make sure you carve at least 1 Small Hermitaur Shell from the crab
monsters.
- Mine for Machalite Ore in areas 4,7 and 8. You need it to upgrade your
weapon.

______________________________________________________________________________
D. SETTING UP THE COMBINE SHOP
________________________________________________________________/.(d.comb).__

Back in the village, put stuff you got from the quest in your box and upgrade
your weapon again if you can. The Combine-shopkeeper will now appear and he'll
require you to bring him the following items in order to open his shop:

- 1x Small Hermitaur Shell
- 5x Night Herbs
- 3x Sunstone Ore

You'll receive 250z in return for your efforts. There is a quest we haven't
done yet, so let's do it now. Choose night/day time if you still need some
Night herbs or Sunstone Ore respectively. If you already have everything,
either will be fine. Sunstone Ore is a little more useful than Night Herbs
though.

Warm Hunt the Jungle 100 (M)Hunt Bulldrome 700
season wild Boar! (S1)Kill 8 Vespoid 200
(S2)Deliver 2 Royal Beetles 450
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Bulldrome. He rotates between areas 2,5,7,3.
(S1) Kill 8 Vespoids, which can be found in almost every area. Use a poison
Sword and Shield (SnS) or poison bombs if you want to carve them.
(S2) Catch them at bugspots (where green pireflies are flying around)
in areas 2,3 and 10.

______________________________________________________________________________
E. YOUR FIRST WYVERN: YIAN KUT-KU!
________________________________________________________________/.(e.frst).__

Back in Jumbo Village, put your items away and upgrade your weapon if
possible.

NOTE: By now you might have a choice between going with the Assassin's
Dagger path or the Serpent Bite path. The choice is yours, but I
would take the latter, since it can be upgraded into a stun or poison
SnS. Stun is really useful to hit the monster's weak spot (usually
the head) while paralyzed. Poison will do a set amount of damage over
time, which is great for killing vespoids and hornetaurs without
making them shatter. Or you can try out a different weapon class
altogether. Hammers are very powerful and easy to use once you get the
hang of them, but you won't be able to cut tails.

The Village Chief has another red bubble above his head, and you know what
that means: he requires more materials to allow you to advance as a hunter.
First, he'll give you 3x Bomb Material. Then he'll ask for:

- 3x Velocidrome Claw (from Velocidrome, carve+rewards)
- 1x Bulldrome Hide (from Bulldrome, carve+rewards)

You'll receive 120z if you fulfill his request. You'll now be able to search
quests at the counter by map. Also, new items are on sale in the item shop and
combine shop now. Villagers will occasionally have blue bubbles above their
heads. Fulfilling those requests will not advance the story, but NPC's might
give you some money, items or treat you to a free meal at your house for it.
Later on in the game, it will trigger even more events.

Another quest in the Jungle has also opened up (still in WARM season), which
has a Yian Kut-Ku in it. You can do this now if you want, because you'll need
a Kut-Ku Webbing later on.

Warm Jungle Menace Jungle 150 (M)Hunt Yian Kut-Ku 1200
season (S1)Deliver 1 Wyvern Tear 700
(S2)Kill 8 Vespoid 200
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Kut-Ku. He flies to various places, but always rests in
area 6 when he limps and his ears are down (means he's almost dead).
(S1) Obtained from the shiny drop of Kut-Ku by dizzying him with a sonic bomb
or a small bomb. If he didn't drop anything, wait until he's no longer
enraged to do it again, because he can't be dizzied while angry.
(S2) Kill 8 Vespoids, which can be found in almost every area. Use a poison
Sword and Shield (SnS) or poison bombs if you want to carve them.

- You need 1 Webbing from Kut-Ku to advance in the story. You don't have to
do anything special for it, just kill him and hope you get one. If not,
rince and repeat.

NOTE: The quest won't always be available due to seasons changing. Rest
assured though that you can get Webbings from any quest with a Kut-Ku
in it, even Blue Kut-Ku's. The blue ones have a lot more HP though,
so it will take longer to kill them.

______________________________________________________________________________
F. A NEW HUNTING GROUND: THE DESERT
________________________________________________________________/.(f.dsrt).__

Now it's finally time to go to the new hunting ground, i.e. the Desert. Beware
that during warm season (when the top left icon is orange coloured), you
cannot enter the desert because it is too hot and therefore closed off. If you
want to proceed in the story, you'll have to wait until cold or breeding
season. You can also just go to bed in your house and choose the third option
(800z) which will make you sleep until the next season. Now quests have opened
up, let's choose the one with Gendrome in it to proceed with the story.

Cold Hunt the Desert 100 (M)Hunt Gendrome 800
season Gendrome! (S1)Kill 6 Genprey 400
(S2)Deliver 1 Cactus 400
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Gendrome. He rotates between area 4,2,1,5,6 or 4,2,3,7,6.
(S1) Kill 8 minions of Gendrome. They look the same, only a bit smaller.
(S2) For the Cactus, you have to combine a cactus Flower and a Macha Pot.
Put it in the ground, wait at least 5 minutes and gather it from the
place where you buried it.

- You need 3x Gendrome Hides and 5 Cactus Flowers to advance in the story.
The former are from Gendrome (carve+rewards), the latter can be found in
areas 5 and 8 mostly.

______________________________________________________________________________
G. FIGHTING A GIANT CRAB: DAIMYO HERMITAUR!
________________________________________________________________/.(g.daim).__

Back in the village, talk to the Village Chief if you haven't already, because
he has a new red bubble request. He'll give you 2x Sonic Bombs. The required
items are:

- 3x Gendrome Hide
- 1x Kut-Ku Webbing
- 5x Cactus Flower

You'll receive 120z, which is ridiculously little, compared to your efforts
(I swear, he's the stingiest of them all!). If you talk to him again, he'll
give 1x Lg Barrel Bomb that does a set damage of 80HP, meaning it's pretty
powerful. The demand for help just keeps on coming, because he already has a
new request and it's nothing less than hunting down a Daimyo Hermitaur.

N/A The Lurking Desert 200 (M)Hunt Daimyo Hermitaur 1800
Desert Giant (S1)
(S2)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Daimyo Hermitaur. He'll start in area 9 and then move to
area 5. When he's weakened, you'll see dark blue bubbles at his mouth and
he'll escape to area 9 again.

NOTE: It doesn't matter in what season you take this quest. Since it's an
urgent quest, it will always be available.

- If you've never played any previous MH games, this will be your first
tougher quest where you don't get additional supplies from completing
sub quest objectives. So remember to bring enough potions, stamina items
and whetstones. Also, FYI, Daimyo is more vulnerable to impact type
weapons like hammers, hunting horns and lances than to slash type weapons
like SnS, dual swords, and great/long swords. His claws can be broken with
slash weapons, but his shell will require impact.

______________________________________________________________________________
H. THE VILLAGE IS EXPANDING! (PART I)
________________________________________________________________/.(h.expd).__

Upon entering the village, you'll immediately notice that the quest counter
has been upgraded to level 2 and you'll now be able to search quests by
monster species, such as Bird-Wyvern, Wyvern, Mammal, Piscine, Carapaceon,
etc. A new area has been added to explore: the Swamp, which is rainy during
the day and turns poisonous during the night.

Go back to your house and you'll see the Village Chief. He'll give you 5x
Honey and will even treat you to a free meal! Bon appetit. Ahem... A new
selection of goods will be available at the combine shop, trainee hunter and
the traveling saleswoman (old lady with huge backpack) will appear, the latter
one will do so when doing blue bubble requests for any villager. She sells
some great stuff, such as 2 expansion packs that will enable your box at home
to contain more items. Next to that, she'll be followed by a cute little
piggie which can become your pet if you talk to it and press circle at the
right time (you can give it a name too). Lastly, there will be a few new
quests at the Trainig Dojo.

NOTE: You need 1x Psychoserum much later on in the story, so be sure to buy
at least one from the Travelling Saleswoman. You can combine
Psychoserums too if you want, but the required items are more bothersome
to get than just buying the item itself.
(thanks to paul999 for the tip)

Continuing on with the story line, there are 3 people who will have a red
bubble above their heads: 1) Blacksmith, 2) Ship carpenter, 3) Wandering
saleswoman.

------------------------
1) Blacksmith's request (blksm1)
------------------------

The Blacksmith will want the following items:

- 20x Iron Ore
- 16x Earth Crystal
- 2x Iodrome Hide

Assuming you already know how to get the first two items (from mining), let's
focus on getting the Iodrome Hides.

Warm Fang of the Swamp 100 (M)Hunt Iodrome 900
season Iodrome! (S1)Kill 15 Hornetaur 300
(S2)Deliver 10 Special Mushrms 600
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Iodrome. He rotates between areas 6,5,7 and 8.
(S1) Kill 8 Hornetaurs, which can be found in various areas. Use a poison
Sword and Shield (SnS) or poison bombs if you want to carve them.
(S2) Gather these from the mushroom spots in areas 2,4,5 and 6.

NOTE: There is an Iodrome quest in the Swamp during breeding season as well.
The subquest objectives will be different though. Check the Offline
quests list (Part II of the FAQ) for more info.

You'll receive 300z after giving her all the items. What is important now, is
that you do blue bubble quests for her till her next red bubble quest appears.
If she doesn't have any blue bubbles, you can do any random quest or start
gathering the materials needed for the red bubble request of the ship
carpenter located at the northside of Jumbo (see below).

Once the red bubble shows up, this is what she'll want:

- 5x Machalite Ore (Jungle mining in areas 4,7,8)
- 15x Bone (Search between bones in Jungle areas 6,7,8)
- 5x Kut-Ku Shell (Kut-Ku quests, carve+rewards)

You'll receive 300z again, but nothing else will happen right now. Do any
quest you like (or save and reset) and when you get back to Jumbo, the
Blacksmith will have upgraded to level 2! The old lady has hired 2 apprentices
to assist her and a new shop has opened up in the second shop window (the guy
keeps both shops open, which causes lots of funny rolling back and forth).

In the cave on the east side of the village, a miner has now shown up. Give
him a pickaxe every time you get back in town, because you need to get an item
from him to advance in the story later on (can only be obtained after you
have cleared the Kushala Daora quest in Mountains, see "(j.kush)"). Even after
you got it, it's best to keep giving him pickaxes. Because every time the cart
fills, the mine will upgrade until you can reach for the sword that is stuck
in the Lao skull.

----------------------------
2) Ship carpenter's request (shpcp1)
----------------------------

- 2x Hermitaur Shell
- 3x Rubbery Hide
- 1x Plesioth Scale

You might already have 2 Hermitaur Shells from the urgent quest, but if you
don't, do another Daimyo Hermitaur quest. The Rubbery Hides are from Gypceros:

Breeding Gypceros: Swamp 150 (M)Hunt Gypceros 1400
season Venomous (S1)Deliver 1 Rough Gray Crystl 800
Terror (S2)Break Gypceros' Head Crystl 600
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Gypceros. He flies to various places, but always rests in
area 2. He might limp when almost dead, but rarely does so.
(S1) Mine the Crystal in area 3 or 9 and carry it to the red box in camp. The
Backpacker skill helps a lot when carrying something.
(S2) Hit Gypceros' head repeatedly to break his crystal. There aren't a lot of
opportunities to hit it though, but using paralysis will help a lot.

NOTE: There is a Gypceros quest during warm season as well. The subquest
objectives will be different though. Check the Offline quests list for
more info. Make sure you don't pick a Purple Gypceros quest instead.

The last item you need is a Plesioth Scale, which you can, not surprisingly,
get from Plesioth:

Breeding Water Wyvern Desert 300 (M)Hunt Plesioth 2600
season in the Desert (S1)Fish Plesioth out of water 600
(S2)Deliver 2 Goldfish 500
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Plesioth. He rotates between areas 7 and 6. When his
dorsal and head fin go down, he's weakened and ready for capture.
(S1) You need frogs to do this, which can be found in area 3 of the Desert.
Search the spot with the little stones lying around.
(S2) Can be found in area 1 and 6. Be sure to bring Goldfish bait (combine
Firefly+Snakebee Larva), because only Goldfish will bite that bait type.

If you give all the stuff he needs, you'll receive 130z. Just like with the
blacksmith, you'll have to do blue bubble quests for him until his next red
bubble request shows up.

Once the red bubble shows up, this is what he'll want:

- 6x Main Mast (combine Conga Hide+Lg Monster Bone or Conga Hide+Large Bone)
-> Conga Hide: from Congalala or small Conga's
-> Lg Monster Bone: from Wyverns or Piscine Wyverns
-> Large Bone: from Bulldrome (carve)

You'll receive 130z for your efforts. Like with the Blacksmith's upgrade, you
have to go on a quest to actually upgrade the Shipyard (or save/reset. Aside
from that, the ingredient shop will now be open for business at the bottom of
the village.

------------------------------------
3) Wanderering Saleswoman's request (wndswm)
------------------------------------

The wandering Saleswoman will appear by doing blue bubble quests from anyone
in the village. And when she does, she'll need the following items:

- 1x Iodrome Hide (Iodrome: carve+rewards)
- 1x Ioprey Fang (Ioprey, Iodrome: carve+rewards)

For this you'll receive 100z and from now on the Dragon lady will appear at
night at the counter next to the other quest lady. She'll have a red bubble
request which is none other than repelling your first Elder Dragon: Kushala
Daora!

Night The Elder Dragon Jungle 400 (M)Repel Kushala Daora 3600
time of Wind (S1)
(S2)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Don't be fooled by the amount of stars this quest has. While Kushala
Daora is a tough opponent, you only need to damage him a bit and he'll
flee after a few minutes or once you've done enough damage. Just throw
the poison knives at him and whack his face, but be careful of his
wind blasts. Use flash bombs when he keeps flying. Easy victory all in
all.

Talk to the Dragon lady again and she'll have another quest with Kushala.

Night The Dragon Desert 400 (M)Slay Kushala Daora 3600
time of Steel (S1)
(S2)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Same thing as last time. However, this quest has a unique chance of
giving you a Kushala Claw in the rewards without having to break its
wings. There's only 10% chance though, so it's up to you if you want to
reset and redo the quest in order to obtain it. It's definitely worth
doing, considering the rarity of the item.

Talk to the Dragon lady twice and she'll give you 5x Honey and 1x Spicy Meat
to prepare you for the tough road ahead. A new selection of goods will be
available in the item and combine shops and you've even unlocked a new hunting
ground: Mountains!

______________________________________________________________________________
I. A REQUEST FROM THE ITEM SHOP
________________________________________________________________/.(i.shop).__

To make the red bubble request of the item shop cat appear, you first have to
hunt down both a Blangonga AND a Rathian.

Breeding Queen of the Jungle 250 (M)Hunt Rathian 2200
season Jungle (S1)Deliver 1 Wyvern Egg 1000
(S2)Deliver 1 Drome Egg 500
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Rathian. She'll limp when weakened and flee to area 7.
(S1) Wyvern Egg is in area 8. You need Backpack skill for this, otherwise the
Felynes in area 6 (and monsters in other areas) are gonna get you. Go via
areas 6,5,2,1.
(S2) The Egg is in area 7. Kill the Velociprey first and go via area 3 and 4.

NOTE: There is a green Rathian quest in every season. It doesn't matter
which one you pick, as long as it's green, and not pink Rathian.

Breeding The Ruler of Mountains 250 (M)Hunt Blangonga 2400
season The Snow (S1)Deliver 2 Drome Eggs 1000
(S2)Kill 5 Giaprey 400
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Blangonga. He'll start limping when weakened and flee
to area 3. You need fire element to break his fangs.
(S1) Drome Eggs can be found in area 3, up on the ledge. Deliver in red box.
(S2) Giaprey will only start appearing on the map when you carry an egg back
to camp.

NOTE: There is a Blangonga quest in warm season as well.
NOTE: You will need Silver Grass later on, so it's good to start gathering
it in Mountains. You can find Silver Grass in areas 5 and 7.

Once both monsters are taken care of, the item shop cat will have a red bubble
quest for you. He'll require the following items:

- 2x Flabby Hide (from Khezu, carve+rewards)
- 2x Anteka Antlers (from Anteka, carve)
- 3x Silver Grass (Mountains, area 5,7)

The Flabby Hides are from Khezu:

Breeding Shadow in the Mountains 250 (M)Hunt Khezu 2200
season Snow (S1)Deliver 2 Khezu Whelps 500
(S2)Deliver 5 Anteka Antlers 800
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Red Khezu. When weakened, he'll fly off to area 3.
(S1) Mine a Khezu Whelp at the Frozen Kushala Daora mining spot in area 8
(crawl through the hole and climb up). Rince and repeat for a second one.
(S2) Kill Anteka and carve antlers from their body. Can be found in area 6,7.

You'll receive 150z for handing over all the required items.

______________________________________________________________________________
J. SETTLING THE SCORE WITH KUSHALA DAORA
________________________________________________________________/.(j.kush).__

Next, talk to the Dragon lady at the counter again. She'll give you a
lightning Rod and tell you that Kushala Daora is threatening the village
again. Talk to the Village Chief to initiate the quest.

N/A The Frozen Mountains 400 (M)Slay Kushala Daora 3600
Dictator (S1)
(S2)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Repel after 25 minutes or kill Kushala Daora. Use poison or break his
horns off to disable his wind barrier. Dragon element is not needed
to break his horns. His health has to be below 40% to cut his tail
though. Use Flash Bombs when he keeps flying.

NOTE: This Kushala quest also has a unique chance of yielding a Kushala Claw
in the rewards without having to break its wings. What's more, this
time the odds have been raised to 22%. The only downside is that you
have to either kill or repel (he'll flee at the 25 min mark) him this
time. I killed him in less than 10 minutes with Deathprize, but it
really depends on how experienced you are. Try to hit his head a lot
and when he's stunned, go all out on his head. Once the horns are
broken, you'll probably be able to cut his tail as well.

Congratulations! You've now unlocked a new area: Volcano. It's a map filled
with lava, so ALwAYS remember to bring cool drinks. Also, bring lots of
pickaxes, because there are some awesome mining spots with Ruststones and
Firestones for you to mine (in area 6 and 8).

Kushala Daora will be available as a randomly appearing quest from now on.

From this point on, you'll be able to obtain the 3 parts of the "Ancient Tower
Info", First one is from trading a Kusha Scale with any Elder you meet in the
field. Second one can be bought for 20000z from the item shop. Third book info
is from the miner in the village cave.

______________________________________________________________________________
K. THE VILLAGE IS EXPANDING! (PART II)
________________________________________________________________/.(k.expd).__

These requests from the Blacksmith, Ship Carpenter and Village Chief can be
done simultaneously, so there is no chronological order to them. This means
that you can for example do the Village Chief's request first and the other
two after that.

------------------------
1) Blacksmith's request (blksm2)
------------------------

It's time to do a few blue bubble quests again for the Blacksmith (or one of
her apprentices) until her red bubble quest appears for which she needs the
following:

- 10x Ice Crystal (Jungle/Desert at night, Mountains)
- 1x Plesioth Fin (break Plesioth's Fin, carve+rewards)
- 2x White Velociprey Hide (Mountains, carve)

You'll receive 300z for granting her request. After this you're back to doing
random blue bubble requests for her and her minions. Or you can do blue bubble
requests for the Ship Carpenter in the meantime (see below). When her red
bubble shows up, you'll need the following:

- 3x Basarios Shell (Basarios, carve+rewards)
- 25x Sunstone Ore (mining Jungle area 4,8 or Desert area 4,10)
- 1x Light Crystal (break Gypceros Crystal: carve+rewards, Swamp mining)

Breeding Basarios: Volcano 200 (M)Hunt Basarios 1600
season Unseen Peril (S1)Deliver 8 Pieces of Coal 1050
(S2)Break Basarios' Chest 700
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Basarios. He rotates between areas 7,8,4 and 2.
(S1) Mine Coal at any mining spot (except for 1 spot in area 6 and 8 each).
(S2) Bring a few bombs and place them near Basarios' side when he is
underground. Then detonate them, but make sure your detonator doesn't
hit Basarios first! I suggest using the charged superpound attack of
hammers to continue breaking his stomach. Aim well and look out for his
poison mist attack.

NOTE: There is another Basarios quest during warm season.

You'll receive 300z once more. Now you have to make the Blacksmith's final red
bubble request appear by doing blue ones. Once you have it, this is what she
wants:

- 1x Wyvern Skull (break Shogun Ceanataur's Shells to receive it in rewards)
- 2x Gravios Shell (Gravios: carve+rewards)

Warm Supreme Ruler Swamp 300 (M)Hunt Shogun Ceanataur 2800
season of the Swamp (S1)Break Shogun's Claw 1000
(S2)Deliver 5 Goldfish 1100
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Shogun Ceanataur. He'll start off in area 9, then go to
area 7. He runs off whenever you break his shell.
(S1) His claws are usually too high for most weapons, so use paralyze or sleep
to reach them more easily.
(S2) Can be found in area 3. Make sure you bring Goldfish bait (combine
Firefly+Snakebee Larva), because only Goldfish will bite that bait type.

NOTE: To break his shell, impact damage needs to be dealt, so only hammers,
hunting horns and lances will be able to break it.
NOTE: There are other Shogun Ceanataur quests during every season.

Cold Terror of the Volcano 300 (M)Hunt Gravios 3200
season Gravios (S1)Deliver 2 Powderstones 2000
(S2)Deliver 1 Powderstone 2000
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Gravios. He starts off in area 7. He'll start to limp
when weakened.
(S1) Make sure you have full life (the powderstone drains your health) and
the backpacker skill to carry the powderstone back to camp. you can find
it in area 6, between the rubble.
(S2) Same as above.

Now that the Blacksmith has been fully upgraded, the Legendary Blacksmith will
start appearing. You can make him appear by taking blue bubble requests from
the Blacksmith herself or her apprentices. He will then appear for a short
period of time. If you need him again, repeat the process. What the Legendary
Blacksmith does, is offer you the Lao Shan Lung quest AND certain very rare
elder dragon equipment and Guild armor.

Once you've killed (not repelled) Lao Shan Lung, you'll be able to pull out
the sword from the Lao skull in the Jumbo mining cave.

----------------------------
2) Ship Carpenter's request (shpcp2)
----------------------------

You can switch to doing blue bubble requests for both the Blacksmith and the
Ship Carpenter. When his red bubble request shows up, he'll need the
following:

- 4x Lg Monster Bone (large boss monsters)
- 6x Med Monster Bone (Apceros, medium/large boss monsters)
- 20x Iron Ore (mining)

You'll receive 130z for this. The next red bubble request requires the
following (he will first give you 1x Gold Sake):

- 3x Flame Sac (Kut-Ku/Rathian/Rathalos/Gravios: carve+rewards)
- 2x Electro Sac (Khezu: carve+rewards)
- 1x Shogun Ceanataur Claw (break Shogun's Claws: carve+break reward)

Breeding Commander in Volcano 300 (M)Hunt Shogun Ceanataur 2800
season the Flames (S1)Break Shogun's Claw 1000
(S2)Kill 4 Ceanataurs 800
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Shogun Ceanataur. He'll start off in area 6, then go to
area 7. He runs off whenever you break his shell.
(S1) Bring 5 Sleep Herbs and 2 Large Barrel Bombs, do the second sub-objective
(kill 4 Ceanataurs) to receive 5 Throwing Knives in the blue box. Then
combine those till you have at least 3x Sleep Knives. Make Shogun sleep
and place the bombs near one of his claws. Set it off, but make sure he
only wakes up from the larg bombs. Another way is to use the explosive
rocks all over the map, but that's less foolproof. Using your plain old
weapon works too, but his claws are usually too high up for most weapons.
Either impact or cut type works to break the claws.
(S2) Kill 4 of Shogun's minions. They look pretty much the same, only smaller.

NOTE: There are other Shogun Ceanataur quests during every season.

He'll give you another 130z for this. The final red bubble quest of the Ship
Carpenter is now in sight as well. After a few blue bubble quests, he'll ask
for the following items:

- 3x Main Sail (combine Blango Hide+Blangonga Whiskers, or Blango Hide+
Congalala Hair)

That's it for the Ship's Carpenter. There will be a new item shop at the
bottom of Jumbo, with a rasta salesman. He sells nothing unique on regular
days (except for Mega Pickaxe/Bugnet), but sometimes when you've done enough
blue bubble quests for the villagers, a ship will arrive with fresh supplies.
That's your cue to visit him and buy as much stuff as you can from him.

Once you've slain Lunastra at the Tower (see below), you'll find out the main
reason for upgrading the shipyard. I can guarantee that the effort is worth
it!

---------------------------
3) Village Chief's request (vllgch)
---------------------------

The Village Chief requires you to hunt at least 1 Shogun Ceanataur and 1
Gravios. After that, he'll give you a Mega Juice when you talk to him and
he'll need these items for his red bubble request:

- 1x Twisted Horn (break both horns of Diablos: rewards only)
- 3x Basarios Shell (Basarios: carve+rewards)
- 2x Fatty Tomato (Volcano map, area 2: south herb spot)

You'll receive 120z. Do any quest or save your game and reload it for the
effects to take place: the quest counter has has upgraded to level 3, which
is its maximum level! The Dragon lady will now have the final red bubble that
requires items, so take a short moment to say goodbye to them... She'll want
only 2 things:

- 1x Ancient Tower Book, combined from:
Ancient Tower Info 1 (trade with any elder in the field for Kusha Scale)
Ancient Tower Info 2 (Buy from cat item shop)
Ancient Tower Info 3 (receive from miner at the cave in Jumbo village)
- 1x Psychoserum (buy from Travelling saleswoman or combine:
Cactus Flower (Desert, most non-cave areas)
Thunderbug (Swamp bugspots, area 1 and 8)

You'll receive 200z from her and new training quests in the Great Arena have
been unlocked.

L. THE ELDER DRAGON, LUNASTRA
________________________________________________________________/.(l.luna).__

Upon giving the Dragon lady her items, the Village Chief will now offer a
new red bubble request, which involves slaying Lunastra. You'll weep when
fighting her for the first time though, because she's a lot harder still than
Kushala Daora. But don't lose courage if you die a few times or fail the
quest the first time, because fortunately you only have to shave off a little
bit of her health.

N/A Empress of Volcano 400 (M)Repel Lunastra 3800
Flame (S1)
(S2)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Repel Lunastra. You need dragon element to break off her crown. Her tail
doesn't require dragon element, but it won't come off until her health is
below 40%. She'll start off in area 8.

NOTE: The above info won't do you any good if you don't have a dragon
elemental weapon. The easiest would be to wait until you can pull out
the sword from the cave in the village, but you need to do this quest
(and a few after that) to be able to. Or you could go mining for
small ruststones and hope you polish it into a rusted SnS, which can
be upgraded to Eternal Strife (https://mapleblossom.konohashigure.com
click "MHDos" > click "Rusted and Ancient Stones" for more info about
rusted and ancient weapons).

NOTE: You can do without a dragon weapon on this quest, since it operates in
the same way as the first 2 urgent Kushala quests did. You only have
to deal a certain amount of damage to Lunastra until she flees. It
would be best to avoid facing her frontally and just whack at her back
legs. That way you'll avoid her unpredictable and often lethal charge
or claw attacks. Her face is her weak spot though, so attack it at
your own risk.

After clearing the quest, the Village Chief will have another red bubble for
you. It's very similar to the previous quest, except that it's in the desert.

N/A Fallen Sun Desert 400 (M)Repel Lunastra 3800
in the Sand (S1)
(S2)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Repel Lunastra. Same as above.

After clearing the quest, the Village Chief will have 1 last Lunastra quest
for you. This time you have to kill her and you have to do it in a new area
no less. Since you haven't been there yet, here's a brief explanation: The
Tower is a collection of ruins that is said to be built by ancients. It's a
very rich and unique environment in terms of item gathering (Dragonite Ore,
Ruststones, Thunderbugs, etc.), but it also houses some of the most powerful
monsters in the game.

N/A Overseer of Tower 400 (M)Slay Lunastra 3800
the Ancients (S1)
(S2)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Repel after 25 minutes or kill Lunastra. If you hurry, you can encounter
her in area 4. After a while, Lunastra will fly off to area 10.

NOTE: Once you are in area 10, a rock will block your path, so you won't be
able to return. If you get ko'd however, you'll be brought back to
area 9, and not to camp. Luckily.

After finishing the quest, you'll see an FMV depicting the rise of a certain
familiar village, after which the ending credits roll. You'll now be able to
take Lunastra and Kirin quests at the quest counter, although they appear
randomly, so they won't always be available. Even more importantly, if the
shipyard has been upgraded to its maximum level (3), you can now go to another
village named Kokoto! It's the village from MH(F)1, so it will be a nostalgic
sight for some.

Finally, if you've killed every monster in the game except Lao, Teostra,
Rathalos, Monoblos, Chameleos and Yian Garuga (colour variants are not
needed), you'll now be able to do Teostra quests that start appearing randomly
like any other elder dragon quest. He's the male counterpart of Lunastra, but
apart from that, they are almost identical in their movesets.

______________________________________________________________________________
M. KOKOTO VILLAGE, RAGING RATHALOS
________________________________________________________________/.(m.rlos).__

Talk to the Ship Carpenter and choose to sail the ship to Kokoto Village. Once
there, talk to the village Elder who is to the left of the "Wanted" post and
the quest counter. He will give you 1500z and will allow you to do quests in
Forest&Hills. More nostalgia, because it's the only map that was in MH(F)1 as
well. To progress with the little bit of story that's left, hunt Rathalos
during warm season.

Warm The King's F&H 350 (M)Hunt Rathalos 3400
season Domain (S1)Cut off Rathalos' Tail 1000
(S2)Kill 2 Shakalaka 1500
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Rathalos. He'll limp when weakened and flee to area 5.
(S1) To cut off Rathalos' tail, you logically need a cut-type weapon, so
hammers and hunting horns won't work.
(S2) There are 3 Shakalaka's in area 5. Look for red toadstools on the ground.
If they don't pop out, simply re-enter the area until they do.

NOTE: Even though Rathian and Rathalos look pretty much alike, their movesets
are completely different. Rathalos is much more an airborne wyvern,
which can be annoying because you can't damage him in the air, unless
you use ranged weapons. Flash Bombs will help a lot to knock him down
from flying. Another really annoying thing is when he screams, goes into
rage mode and then charges at you (charge while he's enraged has dragon
element, which is why it hurts so much), leading to an unfortunate KO.
Earplugs skill (from e.g. Rathian armour) is therefore very much
recommended. The last annoying trait of Rathalos is his constant flying
off, so make sure you keep him paintballed at all time.

______________________________________________________________________________
N. KOKOTO VILLAGE, LOFTY MONOBLOS
________________________________________________________________/.(n.mbls).__

After you've killed the bothersome bugger, talk to the village Elder who is
standing near the stone with the sword, after which you can pull it out. The
Elder will have a red bubble quest, which is hunting Monoblos:

Breeding Battle of the Desert 350 (M)Hunt Monoblos 3400
season Blos (S1)Deliver 1 Wyvern Tear 1000
(S2)Deliver 1 Herbivore Egg 1500
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Kill or capture Monoblos. He starts off in area 7. You can tell he's
weakened when you only need to hit him once every time he's calm to
become enraged again. Be sure to keep him paintballed, as Monoblos is a
pain to find without Psychoserums. Sonic bombs are a good way of getting
in a few hits, but they only work when he's underground and not enraged.
(S1) In area 7, position yourself so you are right between Monoblos and the
central rock. When he charges, he'll get stuck and might drop a wyvern
Tear. If not successful, try again.
(S2) Herbivore eggs are in area 10 up on the ledge. Go to camp via 7,3,2.

NOTE: Appearances aside, Monoblos has exactly the same skillset as Diablos,
so deal with him in the same way.

______________________________________________________________________________
O. KOKOTO VILLAGE: HIDDEN CHAMELEOS
________________________________________________________________/.(o.cham).__

When you're back in the village, talk to the Village Elder once more and he'll
give you Hunter Citation, which you can use to upgrade that sword you pulled
out. It is pretty good, but it requires rare stuff.

All that is left now, is to hunt every monster in the game (except Chameleos
and Garuga) to unlock Chameleos quests.

Breeding Towards the F&H 400 (M)Slay Chameleos 3800
season Silence (S1)
(S2)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(M) Repel after 25 minutes or kill Chameleos. You need dragon element to
break off his horn. Attack his hind legs and when he's tripped, attack
his head (which is his weak spot). His tail doesn't require dragon
element, but it won't come off until his health is below 40%. He'll start
off in area 9.

NOTE: Chameleos will become temporarily visible when you throw a Sonic Bomb
at him while he's performing an attack. He'll be permanently visible
once both his horn/tail is broken/cut off respectively.

After killing Chameleos, talk to the Village Elder near the stone pedestal of
the sword and he'll give you "VillageChiefSword", another item you need to
upgrade the pulled out sword.

Finally, head back to Jumbo village and watch the final movie in the offline
game.

Congratulations! You've now unlocked everything there is to unlock in the
offline game! If you happen to have a copy of MHPortable, you can link that
with MH2 and unlock Yian Garuga. A network adaptor is also needed though.
There is still lots of stuff to be discovered and equipment to be made, so
monster hunting isn't over just yet!

OFFLINE QUEST LIST

______________________________________________________________________________
A. INTRODUCTION
________________________________________________________________/.(intdc2).__

This part is mostly for people who don't understand Japanese. But even those
that do might find it convenient to have an overview of all the offline
quests in Monster Hunter 2. Wherever possible, I've tried to use the quest
names from MHF2, instead of some generic half Japanese Romanized translation.

I realize there is already an offline quests FAQ at neoseeker.com, but I
found that FAQ to be incomplete in terms of sub quest objectives, even though
it does offer more in-depth strategies to fight monsters than my FAQ will.
Since most people who went to great lenghts to import this title, have already
played previous Monster Hunter titles, I therefore think it's better to focus
more on how to fulfill an objective, both main (M) and sub (S) quest
objectives.

You only need to fulfill the main objective to clear that particular quest.
The subquest objectives are not necessary, but they will give you certain
advantages for clearing, such as added supplies in the blue box and extra
rewards. Also, as soon as you've fulfilled a sub-objective, you can return to
the village and the quest will count as succeeded. To do so, go back to the
camp bed and pick the middle option. The quest itself will not have the
"clear" sign though, as you need to complete the main objective for that.

There are 3 seasons in this game: warm, cold and breeding season. You can
check what season you are in at any time while in the village or on a quest by
looking at the icon in the left hand corner of your screen. Warm season will
have an orange/yellow colour, cold season will be blue and breeding season
will be green. The seasonal cycle can be changed by going to the bed in your
house, then by choosing the last option, which will cost you 800z (the option
above that will let you cycle throught day/night. The top option is for saving
your game).

As already stated in the introduction of part I, if you have any questions,
mistakes to point out or if there are things you would like me to add, contact
me at my e-mail address at the end of the FAQ.

B. TRAINING QUESTS
________________________________________________________________/.(trqust).__

NOTE: None of the items you acquire during training quests can be taken back
to the village. Only rewards you get after the quest is over, are yours
to keep.

NOTE: Monster and items locations remain the same during day and night for
training quests, unlike regular quests. Seasons also have no effect on
this.

NOTE: The more Training quests you clear, the more items you'll be able to buy
from the Training instructor. An new item will come on sale every time
you cleared all training quests of 1 subgroup of training quests (which
are Basic Training: Basics/Weapons/Carrying/Hunting and Advanced
Training: Field Hunting/Arena. Clearing all training quests will bring
the "Instructor Order Form" on sale. It's a ticket that will allow you
to buy training weapons with only that, a regular common item and some
money.
